Toys safety
Hits: 2083
According to the D.lgs 54/2011 a toy is any object projected or aimed, exclusively or not, to be used by children below 14 years old.
More and more often in Italy, or at its border, the police confiscate counterfeited or not in conformity toys. For this reason it is important to be careful when buying a toy, in order to protect the health of the children.
Toys marking
When buying a toy it is important that it is marked ( it or its packaging) in a visible, readable and indelible by;
1. CE marking ( no smaller than 5 mm);
2. Name and/or business name and/or mark;
3. The address of the producer ( or his mandatory or the responsible for the admission on the EU market);
In particular, the CE marking is put on the toy by the producer ( or mandatory), under his responsibility, and states that the toy has been produced in conformity with EU and national rules. However, it is a presumed conformity, because the producer auto-certifies the conformity. Sometimes the CE marking is not sufficient to guarantee the toy safety, because very often the same CE marking is counterfeited. It is therefore necessary to check that the mark is indelible, visible, readable and no smaller than 5 mm.
Other marks that can be present on toys:
1. the mark “Safe toys” of the Italian institute on toys safety;
2. the mark “IMQ” of the Institute for the quality of electrical products.
These marks strengthen the guarantee that the product bought is good, because they indicate that the toy has been tested ( electrical tests, chemical analysis, infiammability tests…).
