Wind Jet: update on 22/08/2012

Help and advice for consumers in Europe

The Italian airline Windjet stopped the operations on Saturday 11th August after the Italian Civil Aviation Authority ENAC (NEB) revoked its operating licence. The website is not working anymore and the carrier cannot sell tickets any longer.

Other Italian carriers such as Alitalia, Meridiana, Livingston and Blue Panorama are operating substitute flights but consumers need to buy a new ticket if they would like to make use of these flights.

On the website of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority ENAC there are lists of substitute flights and some information in English

http://www.enac.gov.it/Canale_di_servizio/info573961246.html

(just updated).

It has been rumored that the airline is already bankrupt but at the moment there is officially no bankruptcy procedure in course YET, even though there is no question that the company has great financial difficulties.

In fact today the owner of the carrier should communicate his decision about creating a newco or being put to extraordinary administration procedure.

Furthermore, a meeting is foreseen today in the NEB’s premises with all the airline companies which are providing substitute transfers to plan the flights of September and October.

For the moment, consumers affected by the cancellation can send their complaints by registered letter to the address of Wind Jet:

Wind Jet spa
Centro Direzionale Baglio della Sementa – S.P. 69/II – Passo Martino
95121 CATANIA (CT) – Italy

It is not advisable to send e-mails to the carrier as they might not be read or not even arrive at all.

In the case that further developments will lead to the bankruptcy procedure or to an extraordinary administration procedure, our ECC will provide information about the steps the affected consumers can take.
