FLY HERMES’ LICENSE SUSPENDED

authorities have suspended the licence granted to the air carrier Fly Hermes
last December because of the massive delays and flight cancellation.

The Sicilian-owned company registered in Malta operated daily flights on a multi-city route including Malta, Comiso (Sicily), Torino and Palermo. However, the new carrier, which owns just one aircraft, soon started encountering difficulties, with passengers complaining of massive delays and flight cancellations.

Last 6-7 January  Fly Hermes had left about 300 passengers stranded for two days at Palermo and Comiso airport and after that the Italian authorities were investigating also contacting the correspondent Maltese authorities. “An air carrier should operated according to the European standards but Fly Hermes is not abiding by them and adopts an unacceptable behavior” said the President of Enac, Vito Riggio with regard to the disruptions caused by Fly Hermes according to which the problem was a technical problem. “We can not accept this way of working and this is the reason why we are going to fine the air carrier for each verified disruption.  There are well defined benchmarks at European level, but this airline is violating them harming the passengers and the airports themselves” keeps on saying the President Riggio. The Tourism Minister Zammit Lewis admitted that the incident was damaging to Malta’s image abroad and the fact that they took immediate action to suspend the licence shows that they are trying to contain the damage.

At the end of the meeting with Enac, held to verified the reasons of delays and flight cancellations, Fly Hermes confirmed that passengers will be refunded.

 Remember that you are entitled to get assistance and compensation in case of more than 3 hours delay and flight cancellation not due to extraordinary circumstance.
